Week 8 RSL Predictions

We have some big ones this week. No question about it. The playoff hopes of a handful of clubs ride on their matches this weekend. Everyone is well aware of how high the stakes are at this point. So, I’m not going to waste any more time and let’s get right at it.

I’m going to start with the biggest of all of the matches this weekend. Everyone knows it… OMBAC against Belmont Shore. Matches don’t come much bigger than this one. It’s like starting the playoffs a couple weeks early. The winner takes the Red Conference and the loser has to sit and wait for their playoff fate. It’s a shame because these two clubs are definitely two of the top five clubs in the RSL. But, that how things go sometimes and it does add quite a bit of drama. The NYAC and Lions match is also very intriguing as last year’s finalists, the Chicago Lions, could be on the verge of being knocked out of the playoffs. Talk about an upside down season. Headed into Week 8 and both of last seasons’s finalists are in danger of not making the playoffs. No one would have predicted that coming in.

Onto the predictions.

OMBAC @ Belmont Shore: Both clubs are very strong, but OMBAC has been on fire since getting their 7’s players back. I’m going with OMBAC in a battle that I wish we all could watch.
San Francisco Golden Gate @ Santa Monica: SFGG takes it to Santa Monica and locks up a playoff slot after starting the season 0-2.
Old Puget @ Denver: Denver wins this one going away and gets ready for the playoffs
NYAC @ Chicago Lions: Tough one to call. NYAC is already locked in and the Lions need this win badly. I think NYAC will head to Chicago strong and come away with a win. If NYAC rests some starters for the playoffs, I’ll be wrong.
Dallas @ Philly-Whitemarsh: Dallas wins big and waits to see how everything washes out.
Washington @ Boston Irish Wolfhounds: No surprises here, the Wolfhounds win big over Washington
PAC @ Boston: Boston finishes off their unbeaten regular season with a solid win over PAC
Charlotte @ St. Louis: Another intriguing matchup. This one is going to be closer than some might think. I’m sticking with Charlotte though.
Chicago Griffins @ Old Blue: Tough season for Old Blue. The Griffins win this one and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Another exciting weekend of USA Rugby Super League action is almost here. I can’t wait to see how everything works out. We’ll definitely have a clearer look at the playoffs after this weekend’s matches are over.

Good luck to everyone out there playing rugby this weekend!
