Just when you thought all of the Las Vegas 7’s coverage was over… here is a little more for those out there already looking forward to next year’s event. The IRB’s well regarded weekly television show, Total Rugby, was in Las Vegas for the event getting behind the scenes footage for their show.

Total Rugby provides some great behind the curtain looks at the NBC production at the Las Vegas 7’s and were also able to talk with NBC’s President of Programming, Jon Miller about how NBC linked with rugby.

“We learned it was a great sport… fell in love with it like all of you have,” said Miller.

“They’re (NBC) is going at it whole hog and it looks like they’re going to be locked into it (rugby) for the long term,” added Dan Lyle, former USA Eagle and USA Sevens LLC. executive.

Near the end of the video, Miller helps drive home a point that I have trumpeted repeated times here at Rugby America. Rugby Union is an amazing spectacle, but sevens is the perfect vehicle for introducing rugby to the average American sports fan and youth athletes all around.

With a record attendance and good television ratings, the future for the USA 7’s is very bright and now the focus for USA Sevens LLC. and NBC turns towards the Collegiate Rugby Championship in June.

Will the college kids be able to duplicate the success in Las Vegas? Probably not in attendance, but television ratings should match and reaching 20,000+ in attendance for the weekend isn’t out of the question. Not too bad for a second year event.

I guess we’ll all find out in a few months. In the meantime… enjoy the video.
