All-Conference Teams and Award Winners Named
University of Maryland flyhalf Matias Cima is the 2013 Fall XVs Atlantic Coast Rugby League Player of the Year. This is Cima’s second time receiving this honor, having previously been named the ACRL Co-Player of the Year as a freshman in 2011.
Clemson University continued its streak of producing the conference’s Freshman of the Year, with #8 Jason Damm taking home the honors. The Tigers’ Ryan Gilroy won the award for the spring of 2013 and teammate Dan Collins was the 2012 ACRL Freshman of the Year.
Jon Roberts, first year coach at the University of Virginia, was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Roberts led a young Cavaliers squad to a 4-2 record and third-place finish in the conference.
Clemson and Maryland, who finished first and second respectively in the conference, led all teams in All-Conference players. Clemson had nine total selections, while Maryland had seven. Both teams had six first-team selections.
In keeping with its member schools’ emphasis on academics, the conference again named an All-Academic team. To be considered for the All-Academic team, a player must have been a junior or senior who was a consistent varsity player and carried a cumulative GPA over 3.5 or better.
